Burdens
~~~~~~~~~~~
Disabilities, handicaps, reasons,
excuses everyone has a weakness. Some cannot breathe the air without a filter, some cannot
smell the flowers, some cannot enjoy an ocean breeze. The very breath from inside our bodies, our earthly temple, abodes where
our Soul, our Spirit dwell. We cannot enjoy the springtime with the buds, the new growth of leaves, the blossoms soon to be
fruit. There are also the visually impaired with vision so lessened that they are unable to make out but images, they do not
have the pleasure and privilege of enjoying a beautiful sunrise. Maybe enough vision at one time to see its glow, some with
no vision at all not even for images. They have to dream or imagine or be told or maybe feel the curves and indentations,
breath, sight so many of us take it for granted. Imagine never being able to see falling snowflakes, children playing, frolicking
wolves in the forest, a beautiful deer, the raised paw of the grizzly bidding you welcome.
Handicaps, disabilities, there are some that are unable to enjoy the smell of a flower,
the fragrance of a lot of wonderful things that have aroma. We humans when the disability is ours we do not realize that everyone
carries a burden. The touch, the tip of the fingers, the feeling on the cheek when touched by lips, the holding of someone,
the being held by someone maybe this lack of feeling could be mental or emotional, the inability not to give or the inability
to receive. We go through life never thinking of that person that constantly has to have instruments to help them see, they
are totally without sight, a stick or a dog, a companion to assist them to go from one place to the other. The people with
no feelings, seemingly there is nothing that they can do or want to do. Some people have a hearing impairment, let us think,
never, never to be able to hear the song of a bird, the rippling of a brook, the howl of a wolf and the cry of our newborn
son or daughter, never to be able to listen to beautiful music only to wonder what the vibrations are about.
There are those who have been blessed with excellent sight, excellent hearing, the touch,
the ability to smell, to feel. There are those that have all of the abilities, speech to be able to express their feelings
but never do. They have the ability to say beautiful things, to create beautiful things, to write beautiful things, to make
someone feel with happiness. We with all our abilities never think what it would be like to have a spine that was unable to
pick up your grandchild and hold them in your arms, too weak, too painful but with all the disabilities, with all the handicaps
that we humans have, the inability to breathe, to smell and to enjoy the aromas even to be able to take into our lungs, the
oxygen needed to keep the functions of our body continuing. Those of us with sight, at least the ability to enjoy things to
be seen, Grandfathers creations. The snowcapped mountains, the pine trees reaching their tips into the Heavens, the desert
cactus, the whirling winds, to brush the fur of an animal, to touch the water, to feel the moving of water downstream to the
ocean from its very beginning as a spring, to feel cold from heat. We take to much for granted but you know the saddest part
is those of us that may have one or two disabilities or handicaps, those of us that may have none, those of us that may have
all physical, mental, emotional and yes, even some of us have spiritual disabilities. They do not even believe in themselves
subsequently they believe in no one else, but the saddest most heartbreaking disability and handicap of all is the inability
to not go forth, to say I will use everything else that I have. If I am blind I will feel, I will smell, I will breathe.
If I have physical disabilities I will help those less fortunate than I. Is that not the
way that the animal world functions, the pack takes care of a fallen one, the birds of the air they circle around one that
is ill. Let us as humans gather around the more unfortunate at least let us offer an assistance, a few words of kindness,
a gesture of friendliness. We have feelings for one another, inward feelings, mental, emotional feelings. Let us remember
that we have wants, desires but the most terrible, the most horrible disability and handicap of all is that some of us wait
too long, we hold it back, we do not want to be silly, we do not want to show off our weakness, we do not want to be vulnerable,
to say I love you, but when those words are spoken, speak them from the bottom of your heart, the depths of your Soul, your
Spirit. Let us not wait until someone has crossed over and goes to the other side to be with Grandfather and the Heavenly
Council. Let us not wait until they are drawing their last breath, seeing their last sight, smelling their last sweet blossom.
Let us not wait until they are laying at deaths door, let us not wait until they have drawn their last breath, let us not
wait until their Soul, their Spirit have gone to the other side to be with Grandfather, the Medicine Men, the Holy Men, the
Great Warriors that reside in the Heavenly Lodge. Let us not wait to touch them gently, to stroke their hair, to look into
their eyes and say, I love you and mean it from the bottom of your heart. Do not wait until it is too late, do not wait until
it can only be felt and heard by the Spirit and the Soul, do it. All you have to do is to feel within your heart the love
and act upon how you feel, act upon your feelings. It is not a great effort.
That is the worst disability of all, not being able to go to a person and hold their hand,
support them in a time of need or sorrow. Rise up with them in happiness, make that person a part of your life, a part of
your thoughts, a part of your feelings. Do not be handicapped, do not be disabled on the tip of your tongue, the tip of your
fingers, the up twist of the sides of your mouth, the sparkling of your eyes, your voice irregardless of how many of the other
handicaps. The disabilities that one has, there is a way to say I love you before it is too late for that person to hear,
to see the lips move, to feel the touch, the gentle loving touch of another human being. You never know when your last opportunity
is going to be, you never know from one second to the next if you are going to have that person which is not yours, it is
a gift,
a temporary gift, to be loved. Do not go through life without telling someone that you
love, I love you, do not be handicapped, do not be disabled in that area as in breathing, as in vision, as in feeling, touching,
as in smelling. Most all disabilities there is a way around it, there is an excuse, there is a reason but not the emotional
disability or handicap of not saying or showing or with touch, saying:
"I love you"
...And Mean It...
