The Years Between
(1957 - 1961)
~~~~~~~~~~~
It was years of attempting to find myself and of not knowing what I wanted or where I wanted to do
it. I quit the Police Department in January of 1958, and went to work for Southwestern Public Service Company.(The local power
and light company)as a ground man for power line construction. I worked for them for awhile and became an apprentice lineman,
tying in high voltage power lines and service connections to homes and businesses. This I did until approximately March 1960,
when I moved to Oklahoma City with your Grams and Granddad Dick and went to work for Tinker Air Force Base as a Radar Repairer
in a civilian capacity with The U.S. Civil Service Commission. I bought a cute little two bedroom house in Del City after
awhile and had decided to stay there and get on with the task of living. As there were times, we in the radar section were
asked to go on detached duty away from Tinker to other bases throughout The United States, I got the chance to go on a TDY
job at The Interceptor Base in Duluth, Minnesota to work on some F-102 and F-106 fighters. They were in need of some modification
and other periodic maintenance work. It was early in the morning of a fall day when I loaded up my 1960 Ford and started my
trip to Duluth. I drove non-stop to the Northern City to find it was very cold and dark upon my arrival. The next morning
when I reported to the Air Base, I was met by some airmen that we would be working with on the birds. One of which was a young
stocky guy by the name of Jerry.
